This Idea originated with our E-Production spider race car in 1981.   We needed to limit the flex of the soft rubber block of the engine mount.  The velocity stacks on the carbs were getting banged against the engine bay and the rubber would sometime break away from the mounting and let the engine shift around free.  A metal guard was welded to the mounts to rest against the rubber and limit the flex as the engine torqued over( see top pair of mounts).   We noticed that the intake engine mount no longer got squished out, deformed or broken.   

 At the time there was an ongoing problem with spider engine mounts getting deformed and having to be replaced on a regular basis.   We tried this cure on the street machines and it worked.   Next we changed the design so that a separate piece could be bolted into the standard mount off the shelf.  We tried it on customer cars and found that it presented an attractive alternative to replacing engine mounts every year or two.  

We offer you the complete mount with the aluminum guard installed or you can buy the guard separately. This modification will make an engine mount last practically forever.  The metal girdle against the rubber block may create a small amount of vibration in the engine at idle.
