 87 Graduate Spider    $8850

  71,222 miles

I bought this car needing the mechanical and cosmetic work listed below.  Since it came from a dealer, privacy laws prevent me knowing the previous owner.  With no fading of the top or interior, so it was obviously garaged.  Everything was working on the car, so it was also obviously well maintained.   The $2000 it would take to fix the gearbox and water pump probably led to it being traded in.  It had our old Paul Spruell Alfa tag bracket, so it passed through my hands when I was the Alfa Dealer in Atlanta.   Over the winter, I completed everything but the paint work myself. Now that the paint is done, it runs and drives like new.  When I took it for Georgia State Emission Inspection it passed with flying colors.

Being from Atlanta, the body is rust free.  The body is very straight with no signs of collision damage. The factory AC and cassette player work fine. It has the original owner's manual. The black fabric (not the original vinyl) convertible top, carpets and black floormats are like new.   The roll bar is neatly installed and the padded vinyl cover is a nice touch.   The car has no performance options, so it likely did not see any track time.  Now that spring is here I will be driving it until my old red Spider is finished or a new owner drives this one away.

E Production ALFA SPIDER

Shown here with Brian Haupt at 2004 Runoffs.

1972 ALFA SPIDER 2.0 RACE CAR

Engine, GB and Diff freshly rebuilt for 2004 Runoffs. Only two hours running time. Ready to race soon.

It has four filled up log books going back to 1980.  Brian was competitive in his division, but had a tough time at the Runoffs because of venturi restrictions and too much weight. He gave up on getting the rules changed and joined the Mazda parade.  Since buying this car we succeeded in getting the SCCA to increase the venturi size from 32 to 44mm and the weight lowered 100 # to make it competitive.  The engine will soon be going on our new dyno to be tuned with the new venturi. We expect it will make 190-200 HP.  This should be enough to make it competitive in E Production and an absolute Porsche killer in vintage racing.

The car is currently being prepared for 2008 season. The air dam will be remodeled with a new 72 grille and appearance treatment more like the Yellow Spider.

Chassis, brakes, suspension, steering and roll cage were completely updated and modified to be the ultimate handling/stopping machine. It also received a new adjustable aluminum racing seat with Tilton hanging pedals (the prototype for my new bolt in conversion kit) and new brake system. We completely reworked the front suspension with my new ball joint conversion; converted the steering to rod ends; bumpsteered and adjusted the corner weights. The rear suspension was already set up with a nice Panhard rod system.

Spares: It comes with two sets of 7X 15 Panasports with Hoosier race tires and one set of 6X14 BWAs with rain tires. Also includes a spare diff with different ratio. I will have to find out what ratios are in the car and spare.

Buyer can take delivery on this car, tested and ready to race as soon as the dyno work is done

THIS IS ONE NICE LOOKING CAR!!   $32,500
